Originally the Shadow Lawn Boathouse, the building now home to the Main Lake Market was built in 1905. The boathouse was a popular destination for the community, serving as a store, snack bar, and boat rental facility. It even included a Tea Room and a swimming beach! In the 1930s the building and those behind it took many forms including a boat manufacturing facility, and were part of Prospect Point Marina serving the community through boat sales, service, and storage.
Main Lake Market was reopened in 2006 after a complete renovation intended to honor the history of the building. Since then, the Market has served the community as a hometown shop, eatery, and gathering place for those experiencing the beauty and adventure of Lake Hopatcong.
